Please Help Save Carlton Bump's Washington Bust.
The bust of Washington in Central Park needs attention and repair

October 20, 2011--Washington - UPDATE January 25th 2012
The last $178 was just pledged this morning - we are now at 100% of our goal of $2,000 for casting George in bronze - thank you everyone who made this happen.  This will be an enduring memory of Carlton Bump's legacy to our town, a symbol of Washington's former and current residents largess and public pride, and a time traveler to show our children's children (three generations into the future) something of our time here.

Carlton Bump teacher/artisan/craftsman created a bust of George Washington for the nation's Bicentennial - because of budget constraints, it was cast in resin.  35 years of Iowa weather have taken their toll on the piece.  The plinth on which the bust is placed contains a time capsule which is scheduled to be opened in 2076.  The Friends and Students of Carlton Bump are raising funds to have the bust recast in bronze so that it will weather the next 65 years. Those of you who knew Carlton know of his passion for art and his adopted hometown - Washington.

Craig Swift, a former student said, "Carlton's work is evident all over town, and this piece deserves to survive into Washington's future. Our town has little to no representations of its namesake. I believe that it is important to take care of our assets and allow future generations to see the best of our times."

Our plan is to have the bust recast locally at Max-Cast the estimated cost of that recast is $2,000.  The Friends and Students of Carlton Bump have raised about $1822 or 91%  100% of our goal.  Please help us reach our goal and preserve this valuable piece of our town.
